With the initial sessions of any project we tend to focus upon building skills.
This week we are introducing the lathe and bandsaw.
Steve steps up first.
Tommy has "a turn", others watch with interest.
Everyone relaxes after the first couple of members remark that it is "not too difficult". Here Ian takes a turn.
We have been talking about making musical instruments and Steve has brought in his flute.
Next is the bandsaw, John is first up to cut out a push stick.
Arthur also take a turn.
Geoff is next.
We often strike up conversations with visitors as they walk past the shed, these two women asked the obvious question "where is the women's shed?".
There are several women's groups here on site, knitting, weaving etc, however, this woman on the right shattered all gender stereotypes by telling us of how she had used lathes, routers and tools in her years working in a factory.
I have included this photo as a message to women young and old, Gender is no barrier, it is only a matter of time before the women get together to build their own shed, come in and talk to me, I can help.
Best wishes to all our readers.
