The ApprenticeSHIP Project was the title of a programme of boat building workshops developed and delivered by PuppetShip CIC from 2008. Originally commissioned by Northumberland County Council within Blyth Community College and Bedlingtonshire Community High Schools  the ApprenticeShip Project built three small sailing boats before diversifying into other types of vessels.

The ApprenticeSHIP Project has grown to become The Tree2Sea Project, a portfolio of maritime and creative activities for young people and adults.

The Tree2Sea Project has a broad range of workshops which each cater for specific age ranges and special educational needs; coracle building for Key stage 1/2 students; canoe building courses supporting underachievers within school; NEET construction projects; building sailing and rowing boats with adult learners; social prescribing; health and well-being projects. New projects can be created to suit any brief with support packages available for the operations of the boats once created.

While we primarily build boats within these creative workshops, we also regularly run kite making workshops and have even built sheds and bespoke pieces of furniture as training workshops.

Project leader Alex Finnegan, is a professional boat builder / designer and co-founder of PuppetShip CIC. In addition to the Tree2Sea project, PuppetShip CIC also delivers puppet shows and making workshops into North East Schools from their base in Newcastle upon Tyne England.
